Character Information

Character Name: Vanitas. [AU 3]
Character Series: Kingdom Hearts.
Character Age: Physically 15, mentally 26.
Character Gender: Male.
Alternate Universe
Canon Point: After he successfully rips Sora's heart out.
Background Link: Here for Vanitas and then here for the remnant.

NOTE: Vanitas is in possession of Sora's heart as described below and I was wondering if he'd be allowed it while in the tower. I'm cool with him not being able to have it, too. That, and since he has the power to summon Unversed at his will (again, mentioned below), would it carry on to the Unversed that are already in the tower? Thank you for answering my questions, mods!

AU Background:

First off, here are the details for Antipode-verse/for this AU. It covers Riku's story and I will go ahead and describe Vanitas' Remnant's background below.

After the events of Birth by Sleep, one would expect Vanitas to go away forever after he was defeated by Ventus, right? See, in this version, his will was strong enough and a fragment of his darkness continued to wander around. Eventually, this fragment festered enough to where it could form a new body for Vanitas, even if it was a fragile one. For some time, he wasn't able to stabilize his current form unless if he got stronger, so he sparred frequently with Terra's Lingering Will to get himself that much stronger and tougher.

And, when he had enough of just being in the Badlands, he began his own journey across the worlds out there to find just where Ventus' heart lay dormant and claim it for himself. Though, as he was met with Heartless, he thought that they were less threatening than his own Unversed, so he decided to fight them too - all in the name of getting stronger than he was right now. Along the way, he was watching over Riku's progress just to see what the next generation could do. Though, his previous experiences were not forgotten and he was able to remain undetected by Xehanort and his cronies.

As he watched the trio struggle against the Heartless, he was able to identify the source of Ven's heart - locked away in to Sora and his target was locked on to him. As he stalked the boy in the shadows, he watched what he did: work for Maleficent, "rescue" the Princesses of Heart and then the struggles against Riku being in the limelight more than him. And, thus, he kept these events in his mind long enough so that he could use them as ammunition against the poor boy to tear him down.

When the Organization XIII was apparently defeated and Riku and Kairi went to go take their tests to become Keyblade Masters, Vanitas knew that it was time to strike and so, he went to approach Sora and began to tear the boy down gleefully by furthering the idea in his head that he wasn't good enough to wield a Keyblade and that he was better off being a Heartless instead. Naturally, Sora was wary and distrustful of him, but Vanitas was so good at tearing the boy down that he was able to lull him into a false sense of security before dissolving his mask and tore the boy's heart out on his own volition. Now that Sora was out of commission, he went to go look for Ventus' body so that his goal would finally be realized.

(And then this is where he'd be brought into Animus!)

Personality: Vanitas is, for all intents and purposes, a jerk. He thrives on sowing the seeds of discord through someone's mind and break down their psyche all in the name of accomplishing his goals. He doesn't really care to forge bonds with others and would prefer to work alone since he only trusts himself to do what's necessary to further his goals and ultimately claim what he thinks is rightfully his: Ventus' heart and his body so that he can complete the union he's been waiting for all this time.

Before, Vanitas was told that he was destined to reunite with Ventus to forge the X-blade, something that Xehanort cared about and this was the only thing he wanted out of life. He had no motivation to do things his own way and followed Xehanort around like an obedient dog. Bark on command? Sure. Bite? Of course. Now, after seeing that Xehanort was just using him much like a puppet, he no longer follows the old man's whims and seeks to destroy him for manipulating him like he did. However, if it's in his better interests to ally himself with his old master all for the sickeningly sweet image of seeing him backstabbed just like he did to others? Oh, he will do this and witness Xehanort having his just deserts.

But, he never seems to pick a side to be on beyond his own. Loyalty is a concept he laughs at. If one side offers him the chance to further his goals? Then so be it. He will gleefully throw them under the bus and not care if they live or die. With this in mind, it makes him a true wild card and someone to be careful of because no one really knows if he's going to side with someone or side against them. Though, no one really knows of his motivations because Vanitas keeps them secret and will antagonize someone all in the name of his goal and aspirations. To him, people are tools and while they may be useful, he regards them as expendable and will throw them away once he gets bored of them.

When in a conversation, Vanitas tends to not mince words, is callous and very to the point. The only time he'll deviate from this is when he's deceiving someone and trying to spread seeds of uncertainty in someone. In this vein, he is sadistic and he displays this by tearing down someone's self-worth, upsetting someone, making them mad and turning friends into foes. It's all a game to him and he doesn't care who it is as long as they provide entertainment. One thing to note is that he deeply enjoys being the one to hold all the cards while watching others dance on his marionette strings, so thus, he enjoys and craves being in control.

Yet, even with this, it's not as if Vanitas hasn't learn from his defeat at the hands of Aqua and Ventus. As he boasts his strength, his confidence and flaunts it, it tends to be his downfall in the end and thanks to his overinflated ego, he was defeated and wasn't able to make the X-blade as he wanted to. With his time in the Badlands, he thought about where he went wrong and thus strengthened himself so as to not make the same mistakes again. It's worth mentioning that Vanitas is very prideful and this is what was his downfall: overestimating his abilities while undermining others. And so, failure, in his eyes, is unforgivable and he strives to not be defeated again so as to keep up with his goal.

There we go again - mentioning the word goal. Without something to work for, Vanitas will grow incredibly bored and stagnant and these are things one should avoid with him. He needs something to do at all times, and if he does grow bored, he will become more and more malicious until someone amuses him. While the time in the Badlands was spent fighting and working towards being stronger, he grew steadily unhinged and got antsy to the point of destroying things if it'd help alleviate his boredom. Thus, he needs something constant to do at all times or else, he'll grow hectic and be even more unstable.

Vanitas is not someone to underestimate and he proves this with his sharp tongue and even sharper wit to tear someone down until they are merely putty in his hand. Underestimating him may as well be someone's downfall in the end, and he will make them regret it every step of the way.

Abilities: Vanitas can wield a monochrome version of his Keyblade named Void Gear that provides an outstanding boost in Strength and deals higher damage when he lands a critical hit. From being around for ten years and fighting Terra's Lingering Will in the Badlands, he has gotten considerably stronger than he was before. For padding and an extra boost in strength, he's merged Unversed in his body to raise his stats that much more. Beyond this, he can summon Unversed at his own volition to fight for him.

That being said, here's what he can do ability-wise:

Afterimage: He can teleport away and leave behind an afterimage and immediately appears either behind or above his opponent to retaliate.
Flame: He launches a fireball at his opponent and it can split into three, homing in on the enemy.
Eruption: Vanitas jumps up, then dives into the ground, stalking the player underneath. When he's below the enemy, he jumps and attacks upwards. He then can jump in and out, and finish with a flurry of Firagas erupting from the ground.
Dark Thundaga: Jumps high in the air, and fires a dark Thundaga spell down at the ground.
Dark Blizzaga: Conjures blizzard like magic to assail his enemy with.
Dark Firaga: Summons a dark flame that goes around to hit other opponents with and can leave them temporarily blinded.
Dark Spiral: Spins the keyblade, dashing multiple-times mid-air.
Dark Splicer: Repeatedly can teleport and slashes at the player, leaving behind an Afterimage with each strike.
Dark Cannon: Can fire a powerful beam of energy from his Keyblade in a circle.
Despair: Summons pillars of darkness in a circle around him, then expels them outwards to damage enemies and restore the user's health.
Damnation: Vanitas can charge his energy and then swing his Keyblade up. Columns of darkness continuously erupt from the ground around the enemy and himself, damaging any nearby enemies harder than a normal attack.
Dark Cyclone: Vanitas' attacks become much more harder to block and deal damage to surrounding enemies by spinning around. The finisher is him spinning around and rapidly moving across the field, damaging enemies in his path.
Dark Wingblade: Like Dark Cyclone, Vanitas' strikes are much harder to block as he performs this move. He spins around and gives a downward slash while six swords are thrown down into the ground, forming an altar-like shape. He then lands in the middle of the swords as a brilliant darkness wave damages all enemies.

He can also form a black sphere around himself in which he is completely invulnerable to anything and can send out copies of himself to strike his enemies at a fast pace, and should one of these copies hit the enemy, it can blind them temporarily and he has the advantage to kill or seriously wound them.

Oh, also, if the enemy would cast a Cure/Healing spell?

Yeah, it'd heal him too.

Beyond this, though, Vanitas is a terrific orator to get people to work for him and bend to his whims. He was able to manipulate Sora enough so that he'd be able to claim the boy's heart for his own. He's just as dangerous with his words as he is with his Keyblade, and thus, this makes him a formidable opponent both off and on the battlefield. Additionally, he can also rip people's hearts out as mentioned before. If this cannot be performed in the tower, then I am fine with this being nerfed/limited.

Sample Entry: Hope this works!
